Frequent Asked Questions

What is CBT and how does it help with substance use?

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It helps you identify the thoughts, feelings, and habits that lead to substance use — and teaches you how to change them. It’s practical, step-by-step, and focused on long-term results.

No. This course supports anyone struggling with dependency — whether it’s alcohol, prescription medication, or other substances. If your use feels hard to control, this course is for you.

No. You can start therapy wherever you are in your journey. Your therapist will work with you to set realistic goals and build gradual progress.

No. This is not a detox or rehab facility. It’s a psychological therapy course using CBT to support behavioral change. If you need medical supervision for withdrawal, we recommend seeking medical care first before starting therapy.

This is private, professional therapy — not a group program. You work one-on-one with a trained therapist who personalizes the course for you. It complements group support, but is more focused and structured.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

Adam L. – United States
After years of hiding my drinking behind “high-functioning success,” I hit a wall — emotionally, physically, and professionally. I found this course online while searching for private help abroad. What stood out was the tone: calm, non-judgmental, and real. The first few sessions were hard emotionally, but the therapist helped me slowly unpack the patterns I’d built around shame and control. By session six, I was sleeping better and had created a small routine that didn’t center around alcohol. I won’t say everything is fixed — but I finally feel like I have a path forward.
Sebastian K. – Germany
I came to Thailand hoping to “run away” from my drug habits, but it followed me here — just quieter. A friend recommended Wooden House, and I reluctantly booked the free consultation, expecting nothing. But I felt safe enough to try the full course. The therapy didn’t feel clinical or cold. It was structured but deeply human. I was able to talk about the root of my use: loneliness, guilt, and disconnection. This program didn’t save me — it helped me save myself, week by week.
James T. – Australia
I’d tried group therapy before and always felt out of place — too much pressure to talk, too much shame. What drew me to Wooden House was that this was private and felt gentler. The 1:1 CBT sessions helped me see how much my thinking patterns were keeping me stuck. My therapist never made me feel judged — even when I slipped during the course. Instead, we worked through the “why” behind it. I’m now six weeks sober and feeling stronger each day.
James T. – Australia
I booked this course because I didn’t know where else to go. I wasn’t physically dependent yet, but my substance use was controlling my weekends, my energy, and my self-worth. From the first session, I realized I didn’t need to hit rock bottom to ask for help. CBT helped me reconnect with choice — how to interrupt the autopilot. The space at Wooden House felt like the opposite of a clinic: warm, quiet, and safe. That environment made a big difference in how I showed up.
Louis M. – France
My problem wasn’t just the substances — it was the thinking behind them. Avoidance, guilt, perfectionism. The CBT process helped me name those things clearly. I came to Thailand for a break, but this course helped me start over. Ten sessions felt like just enough — not rushed, but not too long to feel overwhelming. The biggest change is that I feel more in control of my decisions now. I can pause. I can reflect. I can choose.
Liam K. – Ireland
I was spiraling after a breakup and using alcohol every night to numb out. A friend gently suggested I try therapy, and after Googling options in Bangkok, I found Wooden House. I appreciated that they offered a 15-minute consultation first — that helped me feel more in control of saying yes. The therapist was calm, skilled, and knew when to challenge me without pushing too hard. Over time, I started rebuilding small routines: morning walks, honest journaling, cooking again. These sessions helped me reconnect with the version of myself I’d lost.
Carlos R. – Mexico
The shame around addiction is what kept me stuck for so long. I thought I had to be “worse” to deserve help. But I booked the course after reading the description — it sounded like it was for people like me: not broken, just stuck. CBT gave me language to understand why I used, and the therapist helped me build small strategies I actually used — not abstract advice. I’ve reduced my use significantly and, more importantly, I trust myself again.
